Pahala Public and School Library (Big Island) has adjusted its public service schedule temporarily due to a staffing shortage.
The Library, normally open three days a week, will be open on Mondays only, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until further notice. However, the book drop will remain open.
During this time, patrons will have three options for renewing their library materials if there are no reserves on the items: by calling any public library, by calling Telephone Renewals (Hawaii State Library) toll-free at 1-800-820-7368 during library hours or by renewing online 24/7. You can renew online (except for reserve items, overdue items, or DVD rentals) through the HSPLS website at www.librarieshawaii.org and go to "my account." You will need your library card number and PIN number (normally the last four digits of your phone number) to log into "my account."
Patrons may also visit the Naalehu Public Library (95-5669 Mamalahoa Highway; telephone: 939-2442). Please contact this library for its current public service hours.
In addition, patrons may log-on to the HSPLS website: www.librarieshawaii.org to:
* Browse the HSPLS Catalog for book titles, eBooks, digital audio books, and our wide variety of online databases which provide access to full-text materials from thousands of magazines, newspapers, journals, and other publications.
* Get answers to brief informational reference questions by using the "Ask-A-Librarian" E-Reference service: select the "Information" tab, click on "E-Reference" and follow the simple instructions. A library card is not required to use this service.
