Awards

Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i honors librarians, library employees, volunteers, and legislators who selflessly go above and beyond to improve our library system. These individuals provide exemplary service, countless hours of time and energy, and community support for our libraries.

The LOTY & EIS (Librarian Of The Year & Excellence In Service) Awards recognize Hawai‘i State Public Library System (HSPLS) Librarians and Employees who are outstanding staff members. These individuals are nominated by the public and then intervied and chosen by the FLH LOTY/EIS Committee. These awards are presented each February at the FLH Annual Meeting at the Hawai‘i State Library. Do you know an HSPLS staff member who deserves to be recognized?

The Mahalo Award is presented to a Hawai‘i State Legislator who has shown considerable support for the Hawai‘i State public libraries in the previous year and/or throughout their career. This award is presented often and is presented at the FLH “Legislative Breakfast.”

The FLH Volunteer of the Year Award is presented to at least one volunteer each year who has dedicated years of their time and energy to furthering the Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i’s mission. These year-round volunteers support the Hawai‘i public libraries through their efforts for the FLH Booksales, programs, and the organization as a whole. Mahalo to all FLH volunteers without whom we could not exist.

Welcome!

The Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i is a nonprofit organization whose primary objective is to maintain free public libraries in the State of Hawai‘i, to promote extension of library services throughout the State of Hawai‘i and to increase the facilities of the public library system of Hawai‘i by securing materials beyond the command of the ordinary library budget. Other objectives are to focus attention on libraries and to encourage and accept, by bequest or gift, donations of books, manuscripts, money, and other appropriate material that can enrich the cultural opportunities available to the people of Hawai‘i.
