Celebrate National Bookmobile Day

The public is invited to meet Maui's public library bookmobile and celebrate National Bookmobile Day at Kahului Public Library on Wednesday, April 11.  The free event will be conducted in the Library's parking lot located at 90 School Street, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Welcome aboard the bookmobile and learn about the variety of materials and services that it offers through this important Hawaii State Public Library System outreach program.  The bookmobile is housed at Wailuku Public Library.

"Libraries are the heart of every community and our libraries help our communities thrive," said Susan Werner, Wailuku Public Library branch manager.  "As a vital part of our Library, bookmobiles bring these valuable resources to patrons who may not be able to get to a library.  Our bookmobile serves people of all backgrounds and ages, providing access to almost every service that patrons find in library branches, including readers advisory services, a computer for Internet access, books, magazines, DVDs and audiobooks."

National Bookmobile Day is observed on April 11 and is a celebration of more than 930 bookmobiles and dedicated bookmobile staff members that provide vital library services to their communities.  The occasion is an opportunity for Americans to express their support for these important mobile institutions. For more than 100 years, bookmobiles have delivered information, technology, and resources for life-long learning to Americans of all walks of life.  Maui's bookmobile has been providing this free service to library patrons since 1935.

National Bookmobile Day, an event of National Library Week, is sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA), the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services (ABOS), and the Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL).
