FILIPINO-AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH

October 1: Come join the opening reception of Filipino-American History Month with a welcome address by the Philippine Consul, Paul Cortes, entertainment by the Philippine Consulate Singers, a dance number by the Tekniqlingz Dance Crew, and an introduction to "Filipino Komiks" in the library courtyard from 1:00 pm-3:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served after the opening ceremonies.
October 1-29: "Filipino Komiks" exhibit will be held in the First Floor Reading Room. Explore how Filipinos express themselves to themselves through this exhibit that attempts to present a generalized approach to understanding the comics phenomena which captivates Filipino society.
October 8: Tend to your roots and discover information about your family tree. Bryan Quisquirin will hold a genealogy presentation in the first floor reading room from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm. Light refreshments will be served in the courtyard after the presentation.
October 22: A power point presentation titled "Life of Dr. Jose Rizal" will be held in the first floor reading room with a panel discussion to follow from 1:00 pm-3:00 pm. The panel will consist of Raymund Liongson, Serafin Colmenares, Jr., Ruth Mabanglo and the moderator for the discussion will be Vina Lanzona. Light refreshments will be served in the courtyard.
The programs and exhibit are sponsored by the Filipino-American Historical Society of Hawaii (FAHSOH), Office of Multi-Cultural Student Services of the University of Hawaii, and Friends of the Library of Hawaii.
