Fundraisers

Booksales

Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i (FLH) book sales are popular community events and the primary fundraising engine for the organization. FLH is grateful to our community partners and the title sponsor of our booksales – Hawai‘i State Federal Credit Union (HSFCU).

  • Annual Booksale (McKinley) – Summer
  • FLH Music & Book Sale – January
  • FLH Art & Book Sale – November

In addition to sponsoring those booksales, Hawai‘i State FCU has given FLH members eligibility to join the credit union and has allowed FLH to open bookstores in two of their branches for HSFCU members.

Capital Campaign

FLH needs your help to purchase our permanent home. We have purchased a 12,000SF property in Iwilei and have less than $1MM to go! Find out more . . .

Bookstores

FLH is working to expand our year-round sale opportunities. Opened in 2007, Billʻs Bookmobile was located next to our warehouse in Kaka‘ako but was destroyed by a fire in 2015. In 2013, FLH opened the pop-up HSL Bookstore in the lobby of Hawai‘i State Library on South King St., as well as two pop-up bookstores at Hawai‘i State FCU branches. In February 2021, FLH opened Village Books & Music at Ward Village and it moved, in October 2021, to its current location in Ward Centre Mall. FLH is grateful to our bookstore sponsors – Hawai‘i State Federal Credit Union (HSFCU) and Ward Village (WV).

Four local Affiiliate Friends groups have also opened bookstores at their library branches, raising funds specifically for their library branch.

Pop-up and Local Friend Booksales

Local Friends groups @ your library work to support their branch by organizing book sales and year-round bookshelves, carts, or even stores to generate funds.

FLH participates in community and literacy events with pop-up booksales. These events have included the Hawai‘i Book & Music Festival, Eat the Street, Wild About Reading at the Honolulu Zoo, Education Week at the Capitol, and others. . . find a booksale near you by following the link below –

Online

In order to sell many rare and valuable books donated to FLH, we must offer them to a greater audience. FLH has a large number of rare, foreign, antique, academic, and Hawai‘i/Pacific books available for sale through Amazon. See our selection by following the link below –

Golf Tournament

Our Links to Literacy golf tournament engages our local business community to support programming and greater opportunity at the libraries. Each Fall, “Links” takes place as one of the premier non-profit tournaments in the state.

Welcome!

The Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i is a nonprofit organization whose primary objective is to maintain free public libraries in the State of Hawai‘i, to promote extension of library services throughout the State of Hawai‘i and to increase the facilities of the public library system of Hawai‘i by securing materials beyond the command of the ordinary library budget. Other objectives are to focus attention on libraries and to encourage and accept, by bequest or gift, donations of books, manuscripts, money, and other appropriate material that can enrich the cultural opportunities available to the people of Hawai‘i.
