The 18th Annual

Links to Literacy

Golf Tournament

September 23, 2011 at Ko‘Olina Golf Club!

The 18th annual Links to Literacy golf tournament by Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i was the second of our two major annual fundraisers. The title sponsors of the tournament are Marriott Resorts Hawai‘i and Ko Olina Resort & Marina.

The tournament consists of 72 teams of three players and is staffed by approximately 100 volunteers in what has become one of the premier non-profit golf tournaments in Hawai‘i. Businesses in Hawai‘i use this tournament to reward staff and valued customers, as well as to invite mainland contacts to enjoy a day of golf on one of Hawai‘i’s top courses.

A fabulous banquet and SILENT AUCTION follow the tournament at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort. Marriott has been a sponsor for 18 years and a title sponsor for 11 of those years. Marriott once again very generously donated certificates in 13U.S. and international destinations as prizes and silent auction items. Airlines such as Hawaiian, WestJet, Strategic (soon to be Air Australia), and ANA also help us to provide airfare. In addition, many other businesses in Hawai‘i donate fantastic items to be included as prizes or auction items.

The proceeds from this tournament provide almost half of the FLH annual operating budget and go to the support and promotion of all of Hawai‘i’s 50 public libraries.

The funds raised provide library enhancements not provided by the regular State budget. This includes: Summer, Fall, and Spring Reading Programs, National Library Week, supplies, continuing education grants, and scholarships for library science students. We also recognize the talent in our library system by selecting the Public Librarian of the Year and a recipient from library staff around the State for the Excellence in Service Award.

To attend next years tournament, in its 19th year!, you must be a registered participant. In order to participate, you may purchase a team spot or volunteer.  For more information, please contact the FLH office at (808) 536.4174.

Welcome!

The Friends of the Library of Hawai‘i is a nonprofit organization whose primary objective is to maintain free public libraries in the State of Hawai‘i, to promote extension of library services throughout the State of Hawai‘i and to increase the facilities of the public library system of Hawai‘i by securing materials beyond the command of the ordinary library budget. Other objectives are to focus attention on libraries and to encourage and accept, by bequest or gift, donations of books, manuscripts, money, and other appropriate material that can enrich the cultural opportunities available to the people of Hawai‘i.
